The Paddlers’ Night was indeed a fun filled learning experience for everyone. Mr. Raoul Bacalla conducted a short briefing about the Kayak Marathon and introduced each team to establish camaraderie. In the welcome address of Mayor Ramon Onate, he emphasized that Kalanggaman Island is not only a mere tourist destination but that it is a very potent area for conservation of the endangered species especially that it is a breeding habitat of sea turtle.
As part of the activity, the participants together with Mayor Ramon Chu Oñate, Mayor Bernie G. Tacoy and SB member Emmanuel Laurente joined the traditional ritual of torch lighting and search for turtle nest breeding ground. They actually found one turtle nest and immediately secured the nest vicinity.
All participants of the Kayak marathon Paddlers underwent basic health check-ups before the marathon in order to ensure their safety. The participating teams came from different agencies, as follows: Metal Works, PASAR, Avenger 14th IB, 14th IB, Sealog, BMMC, Exodus, Puntod Brothers, 4P’s, Korbet, Crashers, Sumayod Brothers, Latagaw, Race2Share, Riders Club, Brave Heart, Brave Heart 2, Cool Borongan, Scorpion, Digyo Island, Psalm Outdoor Adventure, Digyo Island 2, Sweet Bikes, BSMP, Cyclist Palompon, BM Pharmacy, S46 ECB.
